Today was such a weird day. I had global health, which is totaly different than what I had hoped for. Instead of learning about... well learning about Global health, we're learning about social health through inequality and privilege. It's a class full of crazy "I have 9 children named after solar systems" type people. It's very very weird in there.
Today the professor was talking about consumerism and what that means for American's. Then she asked how many people in the class had an iPod with them, and a bunch of us raised our hands. The guy I sit next to and I both thought that it was to make a point about how we've been conditioned to consume. Nope, WRONG!
She asked us to pull up our music and tell her and the class the first 5 songs that came up and tell them what it's about. Some other people went first, and we learned that it was all to make a point about Music being racist. I was kind of interested in what she was saying, but disagreeing with some of it too. Then it got to my turn.
I need to explain that my History of Rock Music class is freaking amazing. In it he gives us a playlist of 15 songs from the period or genre that we're studying, and then we eventually take a test on it. The genre we're studying right now is funk music. I've been listening to it pretty much non stop.
Back to the story.
It's my turn and I pull out my iPod and this is the list of songs that popped up.
1) Love Train by the O'Jays. She tore it apart. It's from the viewpoint of American's who think they have it all figured out. Not to mention it's a song by a Black group, no big deal though.
2) Family Affair by Sly and The Family Stone. Again the class pointed out problems with this song and blah blah blah. I was surprised that two motown funk songs had popped up in a row.
3) Super Freak by Rick James. Well that's just sexist! You've probably figured out what I had figured right about now. I HAD IT ON MY FUNKIN BRAINFEEDER MIX FROM MY MUSIC CLASS. It's a bunch of funk songs that are... well not the happy go lucky type of song prefered by the people in this class.
So I discreetly switched playlists over to a more general one.
4) Working on a Dream by Springsteen. I was happy this popped up. It's a good song. Surely there isn't something wrong with it. WRONG! It's written from a white perspective, and only applies to other whites. A colored person could never hope to "climb the ladder" towards a dream. Well Fuck.
5) If The Government Could Read My Mind by The Vandels. Well they loved this one of course. haha.
It's such a weird class, and I felt like an idiot for not realizing that my playlist was the one from class. I got some pretty weird looks for my music tastes. I should have busted out some Dr. Horrible's sing along blog, they wouldn't have known what to say.
There's a wonderful world where all you desire
And everything you've longed for is at your fingertips
Where the bittersweet taste of life is at your lips
Where aisles and aisles of dreams await you
And the cool promise of ecstasy fills the air
At the end of each junk food run he's waiting there
I'm in love with the guard of the supermarket
As the evening sky turns blue
A dream awaits in aisle number two
With my shopping cart I move through the heart
Of a sea of fools so blissfully unaware
That they're in the presence of something wonderful and rare
The way she moves behind the counter
Beneath his grey uniform his secrets remain his
As he guards the groceries, his eyes so bored
And sure he is unobserved
I'm in love with the guard of the supermarket
There's nothing I can say
Each night I take my groceries and I drift away, and I drift away
With guidance from the gods above
At night I pray for the strength to tell the one I love
I love, I love, I love him so
I take my place in the checkout line
For one moment his eyes meet mine
And I'm lifted up, lifted up, lifted up, lifted up, lifted away
I'm in love with the guard of the supermarket
Though a security cap covers his hair
Nothing can hide the hottness waiting there
The hottness waiting there
As I lift my groceries into my cart
I turn back for a moment and catch a smile
That blows this whole fucking place apart
I'm in love with the guard of the supermarket
I'm in love with the guard of the supermarket
We went and saw Mary Poppins tonight. AWESOME! Putting aside the fact that it's my favorite childhood movie, it was so much fun. Not to mention that it was 2+ hours of Dick Van Dyke. You can't go wrong with him, ever.
The Best Get Out of That Funk Song List (in no real order)
Your objective is simple: World Domination.
Your motive is a little bit more complex: Madness
Stage One
To begin your plan, you must first kidnap a chosen one. This will cause the world to slaughter a sacred calf to appease the gods, baffled by your arrival. Who is this evil genius? Where did they come from? And why do they look so good in a corporate suit?
Stage Two
Next, you must seize control of the internet. This will all be done from a amusement park, a mysterious place of unrivaled dark glory. Upon seeing this, the world will scream, as countless hordes of computer programmers hasten to do your every bidding.
Stage Three
Finally, you must reveal to the world your time machine, bringing about a 1984 police state. Your name shall become synonymous with the spice girls, and no man will ever again dare sabotage your music career. Everyone will bow before your extraordinary charisma, and the world will have no choice but to restore your credit rating.
hehehe. It's fun. http://www.darksites.com/evilplan.php
I've kind of fallen in love with this one song "Land of Hope and Dreams" and yes it's Bruce. WHat? I can't help it. The man is a music God with one hell of an ass! No seriously have you seen it? The Born in the USA album cover, yummy! He might be 58 but he is still a fox.
I got my Lupron shot today, yay. :( It's already kicking my ass up and down and all around. OH but you will all be happy to know that the doctors office kleptomania has prevailed. The goodie this time? One of those urine sample cups (unused thank you very much!) hehehe. If they're going to be mean and poke me with shit, I'm going to take something to make it seem worth it. It was hard this time since it was a Corbin visit. In the waiting area there is like nothing to grab, just big ass books and pillows. Then the nurse takes me back to the exam room and she's ready with the shot. It's just poke and leave, no real time to snatch anything. The genius of the plan thanks to Angelina was the bathroom! I asked to go to their bathroom. VICTORY!
In other news. My mom is in Las Vegas at that huge consumers electronics show. The exciting this was that Brian Williams (hehe I'm even using his icon) was supposed to be there. He went last year and was scheduled for this time as well. My mom and her friend Michelle were joking that they were putting everyone on Brian Watch 2009 and Michelle swore she was going to get his tie. It was all a joke of course, but still there was a chance for an autograph.
HE WASN'T THERE! He went to D.C. because of the flooding. Stupid rain, and who did they send instead? LESTER! THEY SENT LESTER HOLT. MY NEMESI
Oh list time
People I hate for no real reason
Lester Holt: NBC weekend News anchor
David Gregory: Creepy NBC ex White House correspondent and new Meet the Press anchor. NO! NO NO NO, NO!
Forest Whitaker: Actor from Last King of Scotland. I really don't like him. I think it might be his face.
Stephen: The Serbian exchange student from Senior year. His damn foot tapping!
Bob: The Doctor that replaced James. I loved James and Bob is like the anti James. PLus he smells.
Amanda: The Bitchy girl from History of the Vietnam War last term.
the vicodin might be working. Not sure though. Did any of this make sense or was it like all over the place?
